Witchy Season Guava Cocktail | Halloween Edition

As Halloween creeps in, get ready to craft something a little out of the ordinary with your homegrown harvests.

Introducing: The ‘Witches Brew’ Guava Cocktail

No matter if you’re hosting a haunted gathering or enjoying a quiet evening in, this beverage casts the perfect spell.

All you need is tart guava, zesty lime, a pastel float of butterfly pea tea for that extra cool magic, and your booze of choice: mezcal, tequila, or none at all.

But, before we get sipping, let’s talk about growing guava.

WHERE TO PUT GUAVA:

This tropical plant thrives in warm, sunny environments (no surprise, here!) While it adapts well to home cultivation, remember that it craves full sunlight – so a windowsill is best.

It needs deep but infrequent watering, so around once a week or longer will work great — unless it’s a very warm spot. In that case, check it twice/week.

WHEN TO PICK GUAVA:

Lean in: does the fruit release a sweet fragrance? Has it softened ever so slightly? If so, it’s ready! Harvest guava in late summer to early fall — just in time for Halloween. Let the fruit ripen fully on the plant for the best flavor.

Great, now you’re ready!

After harvesting, transform the fruit into a cocktail (or mocktail). Juice the guava, blend it with lime, tequila or mezcal, and a hint of agave for sweetness.

Use butterfly pea tea or powder for a little magic and contrast in color. Garnish with cherries (you can grow these, too!) and enjoy your spellbinding treat.

THE GUAVA WITCHES BREW

Ingredients:

  1. 1 ounce guava juice
  2. .5 ounce fresh lime juice
  3. .5 tbs agave or maple syrup
  4. .5 ounce brewed butterfly pea tea
  5. 1.5 ounces tequila blanco or mezcal. Or, make it a mocktail!
  6. Soaked cherries for garnish
  7. Hardened cherry syrup for rim. Make this by boiling cherry syrup with sugar, then pour on a flat plate and roll the glass while it is still warm! Then, let it harden into place.

Steps:

1. Brew tea and set aside to chill.

2. Prep your glass (if you’re adding anything to the rim).

3. In a shaker over ice, pour in guava juice, liquor of choice, lime, and agave syrup. Shake well until chilled and strain into glass.

4. Float the butterfly pea tea over the top of the drink.

5. Garnish with stemmed cherries on a cocktail pick.

Craft your spells, mix, and enjoy.
